Mark Bradford Makes Bold South Korean Debut with ‘Keep Walking’ Exhibition

Mubaf | SEOUL, South Korea, August 4, 2025 — The Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) has opened Mark Bradford: Keep Walking, the first solo exhibition in South Korea by the renowned American artist. Running from August 1, 2025, through January 25, 2026, this highly anticipated showcase is also Bradford’s largest in Asia to date, presenting over two decades of his deeply textured, socially charged work.

What’s New?
This landmark exhibition brings together nearly 40 pieces, including Bradford’s signature large-scale abstract paintings, video installations, and new commissions created specifically for APMA’s architectural space. At the center of the show is Float (2019), an expansive floor installation that invites visitors to walk across its layered surface—blurring the line between viewer and participant. Other key works include Blue (2005) and Niagara (2005), the latter drawing on themes from the 1953 Marilyn Monroe film of the same name.

Bradford’s practice, often described as “Social Abstraction,” blends formal abstraction with urgent issues surrounding race, class, and identity. Using unconventional materials like billboard paper, beauty salon endpapers, and street flyers, Bradford’s method of layering, tearing, and collaging reflects the complexity of lived experience in urban America—particularly in his hometown of South Central Los Angeles.

A Deep Dive into Bradford’s Vision
This Seoul presentation expands on an international exhibition first organized by Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart in Berlin. While keeping key works intact, the APMA edition takes a site-specific approach, reshaping the experience to match the museum’s striking design and Korean cultural context.
